I wrote a Bible Study Tract for Seaside concerning, THE HOLY SPIRIT IN BELIEVERS. I addressed each point briefly and encouraged everyone to use this in their own personal meditations during the week. I posted the document in a previous post, but I will share some of the points I emphasized in the comments below.
A Few Notes from Wednesday Study...
THE HOLY SPIRIT IN BELIEVERS...
The entirety of the Christian experience is a spiritual journey. Those who will not be spiritual, will not be saved.
BORN OF THE SPIRIT...
The Christian journey begins with spiritual awakening.
Man was created to have fellowship with God. God is Spirit and those who worship Him must worship Him in spirit and in truth.
Our spirits are dead because of sin, but God renews, regenerates our spirits through the invigorating power of the Holy Spirit.
We have all been born in the flesh and by water, we all need to be born again by the Holy Spirit (Jn. 3:3-6). New Life begins with New Birth.
LIVING, WALKING IN THE SPIRIT...
God not only provides spiritual birth, He provides spiritual life for those who continue (abide) in Him.
The physical flesh is temporal, the spirit is eternal.
Those who want to fellowship with God focus their attention and energy on developing their spiritual lives.
BEARING FRUIT OF THE SPIRIT...
Being the recipients of New Life and enjoying the path of Newness of life results in producing the likeness of God in our lives.
This likeness is seen in the Fruit of the Spirit.
Believers produce these traits because of the New Nature, the New Man imparted at our New Birth.
We also received Divine Nature, which manifests itself through our thoughts, words and deeds, also referred to as the FRUIT OF THE SPIRIT.
LED BY THE SPIRIT...
We are not left to, "Figure out life on our own." God will lead us as we look to Him in faith.
This requires us to turn our attention to spiritual realities and to exercise ourselves in spiritual pursuits.
PURIFIED BY THE SPIRIT...
The main purpose in God Baptizing His people with His Holy Spirit is to Purify their hearts.
This was the lasting evidence of the day of Pentecost.
This was the common reality between Jews and Gentiles (Ac. 15:9).
This was the plan of God from the very beginning.
FILLED WITH THE SPIRIT...
Our initial filling with the Holy Spirit comes when we are emptied of the carnal nature, but there are may fillings that take place in the believers life.
ANOINTED BY THE SPIRIT...
The anointing of the Holy Spirit is when we are clothed in Divine presence and power to do His work, in His way.
This is not just man at his best, it is God in man.
TAUGHT BY THE SPIRIT...
As we avail ourselves of spiritual light, found in the word, prayer, meditation and fellowship, God will teach us.
No one is taught unless they humble themselves and obey God.
GIFTED BY THE SPIRIT...
God gives us gifts that are the tools of our trade and then He enables us to use them.
EMPOWERED BY THE SPIRIT...
We are not left to our own strength to follow or serve Him.
Not only does He give us power (authority), He gives us POWER (dynamite), explosive spiritual power to shake the gates of hell and to live in a way that is pleasing to God.
SEALED BY THE SPIRIT...
Those who live by faith are sealed, marked by the Holy Spirit.
2 Timothy 2:19
(19) Nevertheless the foundation of God stands sure, having this seal, The Lord knows them that are his. And, Let every one that names the name of Christ depart from iniquity.
Christian life begins, continues and culminates in the Spirit of God.
