If it is mandated by the Bible, we ought to do it.
If it is not mandated, but allowed by the Bible, we ought not require others to do it, even if we do it (and vice versa).
If it is condemned by the Bible, we ought not to do it.
We ought not to make man's word as binding as God's word and we should not add to God's word.
We should know the difference between man's word and God's word.
