10/13/10 Proverb (13:1-3)

10/13/10 Proverb (13:1-3)

Today's Proverb (13:1-3) quickly raised a few thoughts.
(1) Response to Parents.
a) Great Treasure Awaits Obedient Children.
b) Great Tragedy Assaults Obstinate Children.

(2) Eating Our Own Words.
a) A Good Man's Words Produces Victory.
b) An Evil Man's Words Produces Violence.

(3) Production Line of Life: Thoughts Determine Speech, Speech Determines Actions.
a) Good Leads to Good.
b) Evil Leads to Evil.

The Passage and a couple of Notes...
Proverbs 13:1-3

(1) A wise son hears his father's instruction: but a scorner hears not rebuke.
(2) A man shall eat good by the fruit of his mouth: but the soul of the transgressors shall eat violence.
(3) He that keeps his mouth keeps his life: but he that opens wide his lips shall have destruction.

DLG note...
Biblical honor of parents leads to Treasure, Victory and that which is Good.
Continued Resistance of parental wisdom Results in never Reaching life's true Riches.

There is a direct connection between our thoughts, our words and our actions. What we think leads to what we say and what we say leads to what we do.

DIVINE EXAMPLE...
God thought redemption, God spoke redemption and God provided redemption.
Jesus is the Word (Logos) of God, which is the inward Thought of God, which was expressed when God spoke and the Word became flesh. God's Thought became God's Word, became God's Action.

John 1:14
(14) And the Word was made flesh, and dwelt among us, (and we beheld his glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the Father,) full of grace and truth.

Hebrews 1:1-3
(1) God who at sundry times and in divers manners spake in time past unto the fathers by the prophets,
(2) Hath in these last days spoken unto us by his Son, whom he hath appointed heir of all things, by whom also he made the worlds;
(3) Who being the brightness of his glory, and the express image of his person, and upholding all things by the word of his power, when he had by himself purged our sins, sat down on the right hand of the Majesty on high;

1 John 1:1-2(1) That which was from the beginning, which we have heard, which we have seen with our eyes, which we have looked upon, and our hands have handled, of the Word of life;
(2) (For the life was manifested, and we have seen it, and bear witness, and show unto you that eternal life, which was with the Father, and was manifested unto us;)

FROM THOUGHTS TO WORDS TO DEEDS
Our thoughts become our words, become our actions. This is why we need to bring every thought captive to the obedience of Christ.

2 Corinthians 10:3-5
(3) For though we walk in the flesh, we do not war after the flesh:
(4) (For the weapons of our warfare are not carnal, but mighty through God to the pulling down of strongholds;)
(5) Casting down imaginations, and every high thing that exalts itself against the knowledge of God, and bringing into captivity every thought to the obedience of Christ;

James 1:14-15
(14) But every man is tempted, when he is drawn away of his own lust, and enticed.
(15) Then when lust hath conceived, it brings forth sin: and sin, when it is finished, brings forth death.

Remember, an evil thought is not the same as thoughts of evil. An evil thought is wickedness that we entertain in our minds, thoughts of evil are the passing ideas introduced to our minds through circumstances, events, memories, which Satan intends to sidetrack or derail us.

Dismiss evil thoughts by the power of the Holy Spirit in you.
Do not feed your mind with destructive words.
Do not allow evil thoughts and evil words to become evil actions.

Someone said, "You can't stop the birds from flying over your head, but you can keep them from building a nest in your hair."

It all starts in the mind, therefore we should have the mind of Christ.

Philippians 2:5
(5) Let this mind be in you, which was also in Christ Jesus:

1 Peter 4:1-2
(1) Forasmuch then as Christ hath suffered for us in the flesh, arm yourselves likewise with the same mind: for he that hath suffered in the flesh hath ceased from sin;
(2) That he no longer should live the rest of his time in the flesh to the lusts of men, but to the will of God.
