11/13/10 "WAKE UP"

11/13/10 "WAKE UP"

Timothy shouts "WAKE UP" when I fake snoring.
Some people snore, talk, or walk when they sleep.
I have fallen asleep with peanut-butter cookie in mouth (whoa, rude awakening).
Since my virus, I've dozed at a traffic light (scary); with mouthful of coffee (this a.m.); while typing (zzz).
People fall out of bed because they go to sleep close to the edge.
God calls us to awake from sin and follow Him.

WAKE UP
The words, “asleep” and “sleep” are used in various ways in the Bible. Sometimes it refers to literal sleep, or the death of the body when a Christian dies, or to the spiritual malaise brought about by sin. God calls sinners (the unconverted) to awaken from sleep, and He calls those who have believed but have fallen back into sin, to awaken from their lethargy and rebellion. Biblical salvation awakens the soul/spirit of man to a life of righteousness.

Those who go from light to darkness, obedient faith to rebellion, from the power of the Spirit to the moral failure of the flesh are asleep and they are living in the dream world, believing themselves to be saved. However, their dream ends and suddenly becomes an eternal nightmare from which there is no escape. Those who are asleep spiritually are without hope in this present world.

Awaken From Sin...
Romans 13:11-14

(11) And that, knowing the time, that now it is high time to awake out of sleep: for now is our salvation nearer than when we believed.
(12) The night is far spent, the day is at hand: let us therefore cast off the works of darkness, and let us put on the armor of light.
(13) Let us walk honestly, as in the day; not in rioting and drunkenness, not in chambering and wantonness, not in strife and envying.
(14) But put ye on the Lord Jesus Christ, and make not provision for the flesh, to fulfill the lusts thereof.

1 Corinthians 15:33-34
(33) Be not deceived: evil communications corrupt good manners.
(34) Awake to righteousness, and sin not; for some have not the knowledge of God: I speak this to your shame.

Ephesians 5:1-14
(1) Be ye therefore followers of God as dear children:
(2) And walk in love, as Christ also hath loved us, and hath given himself for us an offering and a sacrifice to God for a sweetsmelling savor.
(3) But fornication, and all uncleanness, or covetousness, let it not be once named among you, as becomes saints;
(4) Neither filthiness, nor foolish talking, nor jesting, which are not convenient: but rather giving of thanks.
(5) For this ye know, that no whoremonger, nor unclean person, nor covetous man, who is an idolater, hath any inheritance in the kingdom of Christ and of God.
(6) Let no man deceive you with vain words: for because of these things comes the wrath of God upon the children of disobedience.
(7) Be not ye therefore partakers with them.
(8) For ye were sometimes darkness, but now are ye light in the Lord: walk as children of light:
(9) (For the fruit of the Spirit is in all goodness and righteousness and truth;)
(10) Proving what is acceptable unto the Lord.
(11) And have no fellowship with the unfruitful works of darkness, but rather reprove them.
(12) For it is a shame even to speak of those things which are done of them in secret.
(13) But all things that are reproved are made manifest by the light: for whatsoever doth make manifest is light.
(14) Wherefore he saith, Awake thou that sleeps, and arise from the dead, and Christ shall give thee light.
