06/16/10 FATHERS NEED TO REPENT
I was born in the fishing community of Morehead City, N. C. and lived there from 6th grade through college. My family, home church and neighborhood was made up primarily of fishing families. I pastored on the Outer Banks of North Carolina for 3 years. I have been pastor in Myrtle Beach for 5 years. I have come to believe that the miracle of converting hard working fishermen was greater than nearly any other He did.
Fathers Need to Repent or the Defeat Goes On...
As tragic as it is for one man to resist and reject Christ, the defeat is not limited to that one decision. An unrepentant man, husband, father, has a continuing influence on later generations.
I know of watermen who had no time for God, and they grew more distant from God as the years passed by, even boasting that they were going to hell when they die They influenced their children against the Bible, Christ and salvation, to the point that I have seen teenage children rant against Christ, the Bible and salvation, lauding the so-called merits of Buddhism. Watched as children grew up and, married and dissolved their marriages. Watched as their children turned to alternative life styles and turned to false religions. Watched as they became defensive and resistant when the subject of Christ, the Bible and salvation comes up. Watched as they moved from being a sinner to being a scoffer of the faith and believers. Watched as hatred took over.
I have occasionally seen lives reclaimed as people turned from their sins and believed on Christ. Far less often when dad doesn't believe on Christ.
Why would anyone choose the dark corridor of destruction and certain misery when the way of light, life, joy, peace, comfort, righteousness and eternal life is offered! Not a question, an observation of the unreasonable.
I also was pastor in Morehead from '79-'84, and things had not changed much in that period of time. However, a more vigorous turning to God started taking place in Morehead during the early '80s. Though it has continued to be a summer resort community, there seems to be more men interested and involved in Christian pursuits. How sad it didn't happen sooner.
