Sin starts in the heart.
If the heart can be delivered from SIN (the evil root), the life can be delivered from SINS (the evil fruit).
Justification removes Sins committed.
Entire Sanctification removes Sin Nature (the evil heart of unbelief).
James said,
Cleanse your hands (actions) you sinners (unsaved) and
Purify your hearts (nature) you double minded (carnal believers).
DLG notes... The word, "sin" in the singular, is used in reference to our nature or heart condition, and produces "sins," in the plural, in reference to the as the actions in our life.

Mark 7:20-23
20And he said, That which comes out of the man, that defiles the man.
21 For from within, out of the heart of men, proceed evil thoughts, adulteries, fornications, murders,
22 Thefts, covetousness, wickedness, deceit, lasciviousness, an evil eye, blasphemy, pride, foolishness:
23 All these evil things come from within, and defile the man.
DLG notes... God Can Purify The Heart From All Sin.
