09/08/10 SENIORS MEETING... PREPARING FOR ETERNITY

09/08/10 SENIORS MEETING... PREPARING FOR ETERNITY

Another awesome time with seniors at the Manor. Over the past several months several have passed away. This makes the urgency of preaching Christ very real. To walk in one week and find that someone has gone to eternity makes the task more personal. Though I offer the whole counsel of God, I always throw out the lifeline. PTL, they are grabbing hold. God is Good.

Some Things I Shared Tonight...
We sang, Oh, How I Love Jesus. The chorus says that I love Him because He first loved me. I told everyone that sometimes when I sing the chorus I exchange my name for the last word (me). I comes out, Oh, how I love Jesus... because He first loved Gould. I pointed out that it makes it personal to me. Jesus did not just die for the whole world, He died for me, for David Gould. I had us sing the chorus again and asked them to substitute their own name at the end. God was in it and they responded to that very well.

Actually, there was a lot of heart searching going on tonight.

I pointed out that sometimes it is hard to grasp the idea of heaven, because I have never been there and because there are no pictures from there. However, God has sent His Son, so that I can have an intimate relationship with Him. I might not be able to visualize heaven, but I do know what it is like to be in a loving relationship with Christ. I not only know Him, I trust Him. I know I can believe anything He tells me, and He tells me that He has gone to prepare a place for me.

I mentioned that knowing Jesus does not keep us from having storm clouds in our lives. It does not stop us from suffering dark moments of heartache. However, since I know Jesus, I know that I can trust Him. I know that He will never leave me nor forsake me. When others fail, He will take me up.

I also shared with them the importance of making a commitment to Christ. We are told to commit our way unto the Lord and trust in Him, and He would bring it to pass. I explained Initial Commitment, Special Commitment and Continued Commitment. I told them that those who Commit their way to the Lord would safely arrive at home, regardless of the storms. I told them that those who trust in the Lord will be given the desires of their hearts.

You could see that God was working in their hearts. A very good night.

In response to a comment, I said...
There is another factor. I believe it is much easier to reach the unsaved elderly with the help of the saved elderly. But as the saved elderly go to be with Jesus there will be fewer of the unsaved in that age group who will be brought to Jesus. A scary prospect.

The elderly have pretty much become "sot in their ways" but they are closer to eternity, which causes them more questions and concern for eternity. It can be a good time to reach the unsaved elderly.

Thanks for your input. I am afraid this is often an ignored people group/sub culture in our society.
