Three Thoughts.
The death of Jesus does not save anyone from sin, unless it is the death of Jesus on the cross (Ep. 2:16).
The death of Jesus on the cross does not save anyone from sin, unless the person believes that Christ died on the cross sacrificially for him/her (Ro. 3:24-26).
Belief in the death of Jesus on the cross does not save anyone, unless He rose from the dead. (Ro. 10:9-10; 1 Co. 15:14, 17).

24 Being justified freely by his grace through the redemption that is in Christ Jesus:
25 Whom God hath set forth to be a propitiation through faith in his blood, to declare his righteousness for the remission of sins that are past, through the forbearance of God;
26 To declare, I say, at this time his righteousness: that he might be just, and the justifier of him which believeth in Jesus.
Romans 10:9-10
9 That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved.
10 For with the heart man believeth unto righteousness; and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation.
1 Corinthians 15:14,17
