I. LESSON ON PERFECTION IN SIX AREAS
BACKGROUND...
Atonement Perfection...
There is a PERFECTION that is provided through the Atonement. Atonement Perfection is not Absolute or Angelic or Adamic perfection. Atonement Perfection is found in the Bible and is available to Christians (Believers).
All of God's blessings come through the Atonement. Some of those blessings are obtainable, based on God's will (such as healing) and some are required, such as regeneration and entire sanctification or Believers Perfection. Let me illustrate the idea of an obtainable blessing through the atonement with the idea of healing.
When we say “Healing is in the Atonement," we do not mean that it is always God's will to heal everyone of every sickness at this present time. However, EVERY GOOD AND PERFECT GIFT COMES from God. Therefore HEALING is provided through the death and resurrection of Christ.
There are GIFTS (plural) of healing because there are various kinds of sickness that need to be healed; physical, mental, emotional, relational, spiritual, financial.
VERSES...
Isaiah 53:5
(5) But he was wounded for our transgressions, he was bruised for our iniquities: the chastisement of our peace was upon him; and with his stripes we are healed.
1 Corinthians 12:9
(9) To another faith by the same Spirit; to another the gifts of healing by the same Spirit;
1 Corinthians 12:30
(30) Have all the gifts of healing? do all speak with tongues? do all interpret?
James 5:14-15
(14) Is any sick among you? let him call for the elders of the church; and let them pray over him, anointing him with oil in the name of the Lord:
(15) And the prayer of faith shall save the sick, and the Lord shall raise him up; and if he have committed sins, they shall be forgiven him.
METHODS...
Some people may have the Gift of healing.
Sometimes the elders are called upon to anoint and pray for the sick (no gift required).
Sometimes corporate prayer asks for healing (no gift required).
Sometimes pastors or individuals ask for healing (no gift required)..
God hears all of these prayers, but God decides on when, how, who, where, and if He is going to heal the sick.
HOWEVER, Atonement Perfection is not only obtainable, it is required, because it is part of salvation.
II. 6 of 16 Areas of Perfection (from my Bible Study Bookmark BELIEVER'S PERFECTION)...
A. Perfect In Love (Matthew 5:48)
Matthew 5:46-48
(46) For if ye love them which love you, what reward have ye? do not even the publicans the same?
(47) And if ye salute your brethren only, what do ye more than others? do not even the publicans so?
(48) BE YE THEREFORE PERFECT, EVEN AS YOUR FATHER WHICH IS IN HEAVEN IS PERFECT.
DLG notes...
Our love can be perfect, just as the Father's love is perfect. It is perfection of QUALITY, not QUANTITY. A thimble full is the same quality as the ocean; PERFECT LOVE
B. Perfect In Mercy (Luke 6:36)
Luke 6:36
(36) BE YE THEREFORE MERCIFUL, AS YOUR FATHER ALSO IS MERCIFUL.
DLG notes...
We have the capacity of PERFECT MERCY, (being as merciful as God is perfect mercy).
C. Perfect In Holiness (2 Corinthians 7:1)
2 Corinthians 7:1
(1) Having therefore these promises, dearly beloved, LET US CLEANSE OURSELVES FROM ALL FILTHINESS OF THE FLESH AND SPIRIT, PERFECTING HOLINESS IN THE FEAR OF GOD.
DLG notes...
Because God has provided the grace, we can and should ACCEPT HIS INVITATION and OBEY HIS COMMAND.
We must rid ourselves of all corruption;
IN THE FLESH.
IN THE SPIRIT.
We must also PERFECT HOLINESS.
D. Perfect In Righteousness (1 John 3:7)
1 John 3:7
(7) Little children, let no man deceive you: he that does righteousness is righteous, even as he is righteous.
DLG notes...
We can be as righteous as God. Though the word PERFECT is not used, the point is that it is the same righteousness as God has, therefore it is PERFECT RIGHTEOUSNESS.
While some people say that we cannot be RIGHTEOUS, God's word clearly says we can, and we must be righteous.
There are 3 verses (taken out of context) that supposedly say no one can ever be righteous in this life, HOWEVER, there are 130 verses that say believers can be RIGHTEOUS and 40 verses that say believers are UPRIGHT.
E. Perfect In Purity (1 John 3:3)
1 John 3:3
(3) And every man that hath this hope in him purifies himself, even as he is pure.
DLG notes...
Everyone who has a living and valid hope for the return of Christ PURIFIES himself, just as JESUS IS PURE.
There is no difference between the purity of Christ and the purity of believers, therefore it is PERFECT PURITY
F. Perfect In Conscience (Acts 24:16)
Acts 24:16
(16) And herein do I exercise myself, to have always a conscience void of offense toward God, and toward men.
DLG notes...
Paul wanted to ALWAYS have a conscience VOID of offense TOWARD GOD AND MEN. This allows for a perfectly clear conscience, which is a PERFECT CONSCIENCE.
I took time to talk to the children, explaining a CONSCIENCE. I asked them if they ate a cookie, after mom told them not to, would they feel bad or good? They said bad. I pointed out that this is how God uses our conscience to speak to us. The way to a perfectly clear conscience is through the paths of obedience and righteousness.
